India’s date with second demographic transition

Abstract Using data from various sources, this paper discusses the recently documented below replacement level fertility in India context of universality marriage girls, most which are arranged by parents, and increase their mean age at marriage, mainly due to decrease child marriage. There is virtually no divorce rate, cohabitation, or voluntary childlessness, except for some anecdotal evidence metro cities. The shows that transition small family not cultural shifts towards post-modern attitudes norms accept stress individuality self-actualization. It largely high aspirations among urban middle-class parents children can be fulfilled when they have one two view rising cost private English medium education health care.
